Anthropic has begun rolling out a redesigned interface for its Claude AI platform, combining what were previously separate experiences - chat, Cowork, and Artifacts - into a single unified window. The change is aimed at reducing friction for users who previously had to navigate between multiple tabs to accomplish different types of tasks.
The consolidated interface brings together Claude's core interaction modes under one roof. This includes the standard chat function, the Cowork collaborative workspace, and Artifacts, which serves as Claude's interactive environment for building and previewing content in real time. Claude Design, a tool introduced in April that supports website and prototype creation, is also now accessible from anywhere within the platform rather than being siloed in a specific section.
Addressing a Navigation Problem
According to Anthropic, user feedback revealed a recurring pain point: people frequently found it difficult to determine which tab or mode was appropriate for a given task. The company says this confusion led to inefficient workflows and unnecessary switching between different parts of the application. The redesigned layout addresses this by allowing Claude itself to automatically route a request to the appropriate part of the platform based on what the user is asking for, without requiring the user to make that determination manually.
Rather than presenting users with a set of distinct tools that each require a separate decision, the new design consolidates the decision-making into the AI assistant itself. A user can begin a request in a single input area and Claude will determine whether the task calls for a standard conversational response, a collaborative document, a designed prototype, or an interactive artifact.
New Presentation and Document Capabilities
Alongside the interface consolidation, Anthropic is introducing dedicated functionality for building presentations and working with long-form documents. On the presentation side, users can instruct Claude to generate a slide deck, make edits to individual slides, and walk through a presentation in a dedicated view. Completed presentations can be exported in either PDF or PowerPoint format, making the output compatible with standard professional workflows.
The new Docs feature follows a similar collaborative model. Users can work alongside Claude to build out a document section by section, pose questions about the content as it develops, and leave comments on finished portions. Both documents and presentations can be shared via a link, and recipients or collaborators can access and edit the content on mobile devices as well as desktop.
The cross-device workflow extends further: a user can initiate a document creation task on a desktop computer and then switch to the Claude mobile app to monitor the progress of that task while on the move. This kind of asynchronous, multi-device interaction reflects a broader trend among AI platforms toward making long-running tasks more trackable and accessible regardless of the device in use.
Rollout Timeline and Plan Availability
The updated interface and new features are being released first to subscribers on Claude's Pro and Max plans. The rollout is being staged across web, desktop, and mobile platforms over the coming weeks. Anthropic has indicated that it intends to make these features available to users on the free tier and team-level plans at a later date, though no specific timeline for that broader availability has been confirmed.
This interface update follows a recent enhancement to Cowork's memory layer, which gave Claude the ability to retain context from previous conversations and apply it to ongoing or future interactions. That improvement was aimed at making Claude more useful in extended or recurring work scenarios, where continuity of context matters. The combination of persistent memory and a unified interface represents a significant step in Anthropic's effort to position Claude as a comprehensive work platform rather than a standalone chat tool.
Anthropic continues to iterate rapidly on the Claude product experience as competition among AI assistant platforms intensifies. The company's focus on reducing interface complexity and expanding built-in productivity tools signals an effort to make Claude more practical for professional use cases that go well beyond simple question-and-answer interactions.
